36 Days Of Type 2021: Physics and Astronomy

36 Days Of Type

36 Days Of Type is a project that brings in designers, illustrators and graphic artists to express their take on english alphabets and numbers. I decided to take part in the challenge for the first time.

The topic was based on some terms in astronomy and physics. Having done my majors in physics, I always wanted to incorporate my knowledge of physics in my illustration and design. Hence, I thought why not create an alphabet set filled with physics & astronomy terms!

This challenge gave me an opportunity to expand my horizon in the field of illustration and also helped me in developing my style.
A - Asteroids
Asteroids are remnants of a failed attempt to form a rocky planet.
B - BUOYANCY
Buoyancy is an upward force exerted by fluids on an immersed object.
C - CONSTELLATIONS
Constellations are patterns of stars that ancient people employed for navigation, timekeeping and storytelling.
D - DARK MATTER
Dark Matter is the invisible mass whose composition is unknown. They take form of planet-like bodies or exotic subatomic particles that scarcely interact with ordinary matter.
E - EXOPLANETS
Exoplanet or Extra-Solar planet is any planet outside our solar system.
F - FACULAE
Faculae are intensely bright active regions that are associated with the appearance of sunspots.
G - GALAXY
Galaxy is a vast collection of stars, gas, stellar elements and dust all held together by gravity.
H - HYDROTHERMAL VENT
These are underwater geysers located near mid-ocean ridges. The hot water spewed out by some vents is discoloured by the dark mineral iron sulphide.
I - INTERFERENCE
Interference is a pattern produced by two coherent sources of water waves of the same wavelength.
J - JOULE
Joule is a metric unit to measure energy, work and heat.
K - KUIPER BELT
The Kuiper belt is a broad ring of objects that begins around the orbit of Neptune and extends out to roughly 15 billion km from the Sun.The possibility of such a belt was initially put forward when Pluto was discovered which was roughly in 1930s.
L - LINES OF FORCE
Lines of force are lines in any force fields that the tangent of which at any point gives the field direction at that point .
M - MARS
Mars is the outermost of the four rocky planets. Though mars is a dry planet, a large body of evidence indicates that liquid water once flowed across its surface.
N - NUCLER FUSION
Nuclear fusion is a process where atomic nuclei join to form a larger nucleus and releasing of energy. The most common fusion reaction is seen in stars such as Sun where hydrogen nuclei joins to form helium nuclei. All the solar energy comes from this fusion.
O - ORBIT
An orbit is a path that one celestial object in space takes around another one.
P - PHASES OF MATTER
Ordinary matter exists in four states - Solid, Liquid, Gas and Plasma. These differ in the energy of the matter’s particles and in the particles’ freedom to move relative to one another.
Q - QUARKS
Quarks are fundamental constituents of matter. They are subatomic particles that combine to form protons and neutrons.
R - REFLECTION
When a light wave strikes a smooth interface separating two materials, the wave is reflected into the second material.
S - REFLECTION
Space is a boundless four dimensional extent where all the celestial bodies reside with position and direction.
S - SPACE
An instrument that uses lenses and sometimes mirrors to collect large amounts of light from distant objects and enable direct observation and photography.
U - UNIVERSE
Universe is unknowably vast and is continuing to expand, carrying distant regions apart at speeds up to and in some cases possibly exceeding the speed of light. It encompasses everything - from smallest atom to largest galaxy cluster.
V - VENUS
Venus is the second planet from the sun. An unbroken blanket of dense clouds permanently envelops this planet. The landscape is dominated by volcanism.
W - WORMHOLE
Wormhole is a passage two end points through space time that connects distant parts in the universe. Basically, it is a shortcut in space to reach farther parts in the universe.
X - X-RAY ASTRONOMY
X- ray astronomy is the study of astronomical objects and phenomena that emit radiation at X-ray wavelengths.
The visual is the depiction of a neutron star merger detected from Chandra’s X-ray observatory.

Y - YELLOW DWARF
Stars are classified by group, according to the characteristics of their spectra. G-type or Yellow dwarf are one of the types. The color of these stars are yellow. Our Sun is an example of a yellow dwarf.
Z - ZODIAC
Zodiac is a band of celestial sphere of constellations situated along the ecliptic in the sky, through which the Sun, Moon and planets move. Zodiac is a greek word which means ‘circle of animals’.
